Reviews:  “Meticulously crafted but also ponderous and predictable” is right, but as the film progresses I got into it. Really it is a love story between the two main characters, set in action and SciFi. Oh I love the scene between the husband and wife as one of them drowns (don’t worry, I shall let you see it).

The SciFi creatures appear, as one of the actors say “like an angel.” These creatures, or “angels,” really have a divine origin, focusing one one phase by the husband toward the end of the film. The creatures are just wanting us humans to love one another, but the world, in what they see, is beyond hope and the charioits of Egypt in crossing the Red Sea are doomed underneath the grave of water.

It seems like only one “saves” us humans. He is descending deep into an abyss, like Christ was when He died and was subject to Hades. All humans in the film thought that Ed Harris, the husband, was dead, into the abyss like Christ was to Sheol (Hades). Yet the husband was “resurrected” and, with “his angels” and a whole city — what we might call “the kingdom” — rises from the abyss and into light above!
