Reviews:  Kev’s thots…

Do you remember when you first fell in love, even if it was puppy-love? In my lifetime I loved a number of girls, but one thing held me back: I was deathy afraid of girls! Still am, thus I know I’ll never get one. Oh hum.

This film illustrates that first love as a child, and does a wonderful job of it. Strange how an American can be sucked in by a Japanses film. That means love is throughout the world. Towards the end of the film, Seiji is deadset upon riding that bicycle up steep stairs with Shizuku riding on the back. He tires, sweat is pouring down his face. Shizuku get off the bike and begins to help him by pushing. Both are tired when they, at last, are on top of the stairs. That tells me something, that no matter how hard something is, a man and a woman — of in this case, a boy and a girl — can push there way thru it and come out alright because they have one think that others might miss…love for each other.

Oh, I wish I did something like this back when I was married. Sad.

But this film, the sights and sounds of the city, the interactions of the cast, says that Shizuku and Seiji are on the right path.

From Studio Ghibli, the studio that brought you Ponyo and the Academy Award-winning Spirited Away (best animated feature film, 2002). A chance encounter with a mysterious cat sends Shizuku, a quiet schoolgirl, on a quest for her true talent. Challenged by Seiji, a boy determined to follow his dreams, and enchanted by the Baron, a magical cat figurine who helps her listen to the whispers of her heart, Shizuku embarks on curious adventures beyond the boundaries of her imagination.
